They are often classed as glam, but when you look at the difference between say Badlands and Legz Diamond, both musically and image-wise the two have very little in common. Again this is only my opinion, but I have read lists posted like this one http://www.metal-rules.com/polls/top.../top50glam.htm which lead me to make this conclusion. Def Leppard a glam band? Whitesnake? GREAT WHITE.....c'mon?????!!!!!!

You can always tell a band that immediately set out to glam it to the max. Again I mention the Pretty Boy Floyd album for an example. But how about bands like Slamhound, which were powerful and almost thrash sounding but had the full-on glam image. Or who remembers Pharoah and Phantasm? If you just heard them on the radio you wouldn't have dreamed that they could be classed as glamsters. But then you see a picture and they made Poison look like Henry Rollins!!!!!!

Just an opinion, what do you guys think...????
<font size="4" face="Arial">In Lep's early days, they were considered glam. They were lumped into a catagory of "left over glam"/"heavy metal" along with early Girl and Japan before the switch to the Blitz Kids-type sound/image. Steve Jones and Paul Cook used to spend interviews in their Professionals days attacking bands such as Lep because they wore something other than torn up things.

Early Lep was great! The so-called NWOBHM was really good, and a much needed antidote to punk bullshit.

Was the USA Phantasm from New Jersey?

I find it far too difficult to categorise, there are bands that fall into multiple categories - where would you put LA Guns? Sleaze? Glam Metal? Cock-Rock? maybe a little of all of them.

Maybe there isn't a one-size-fits-all genre and there are just bands with similar styles?

    Hi,
    I agree Hair Metal/Hair Bands/Glam Metal, i HATE those terms/names!!!
I consider groups like Danger Danger/Warrant/Skid Row to be more of a Hard Rock band. Groups like Iron Maiden/Judas Priest to be Metal bands.MTV are so SCREWED UP!!! Groups that put on makeup like P.B.F./Tuff/B.B.B. to be glam bands, then you have Kiss/Poison/Motley Crue who started out as Glam Bands but now i would consider as just Hard Rock now! Kiss/Motley Crue more lately as being SELLOUTS!

What about, sleaze glam or hard glam, sleaze pop, glam glam, hair sleaze, giving it a pet name won't make it any easier for anyone else to understand. Seven chords and a few shades of lipstick its not rocket science.
